When you drink water as recommended, it will help your energy, your sleep, your stress and your overall look. A lack of water causes things like skin elasticity issues or bowl movement issues among other things. Water allows our bodies to clean up toxins and brings oxygen to our cells through the blood stream. Water lubricates our joints and nourishes our brain. We need to drink water every day to replace what we loose from normal activities and from our bodily functions as well.
8 x 8oz a myth?
I’m not that great at following my wonderful wife’s advice on this as she is always drinking water. You may have heard the old 8 8oz glasses of water per day saying and so did I, but when I researched this, I found many reporting that this was a myth.
I found out a few things. For one, it’s not how much water you drink, but how many fluids you ingest as water is present in all drinks as well as all foods. Our body is mostly 60% water with the brain being 70% and the lungs being 90% water so it makes sense that we need water.
Men need 3l, women 2l.
I also found out that men need more than women. Not sure why but the article I read said that “The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3 liters) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day.”
I found all that very interesting as well as how we get more tired and more easily get sick if we don’t drink water enough.
How do you handle your water drinking needs? Are you one of those who carries a water bottle around with you? Post a comment below, I’d love to hear from you.
