Brand yourself online
What does that mean? I’ve been getting lots of questions offline from my friends asking me what I’m doing and I’ve been telling them that I am branding myself which, or course, is immediately followed by “what’s that???”. A brand is something you associate easily with such as Coca-Cola or Pepsi, you know it just by seeing the logo. For Montrealers and most Canadians, you know that this building is the Olympic Stadium.
To brand yourself is pretty simple, it’s basically what it sounds like – make yourself a brand. Of course, there are various ways of defining what a “brand” is – Wikipedia defines it as: A brand is a name, term, design, symbol or other feature that distinguishes one seller’s product from those of others.
We are already a brand
So, I guess if we take this literally, since you are unique (we all are unique) we are already a “brand” as our uniqueness, our skin, hair, eye color; our body height, weight, form; our voice tone, timber and loudness all identify us uniquely, so why do you need to brand yourself?
Well, the answer to that is if you want to monetize it someday – doesn’t have to be now or even 10 years from now. The idea is that, if you are an entrepreneur, or even if you just want to do it for fun, branding yourself is a great way to become someone important and even possibly an expert in your field or passion.
What is your brand?
Your brand will include everything we talked about before but will also add your passion, whatever that may be, so that those who choose to follow you (an internet term which means to look you up, read what your write or watch the videos you publish, kind of like subscribers to a magazine or newspaper). What will happen over time is that you will become seen as an expert in whatever field you choose to be passionate about.
Talk about an ego trip – be careful here, don’t let your ego get the best of you – for me, my 
passion is helping others and hearing their success stories.
